The Year of The Compost

I always wanted to start a compost bin, but I was never successful because the neighborhood wild life would not allow it to blossom.  My neighborhood is ran by alley cats. I appreciate them because we haven't had a rodent problem for 10+ years. However, cats a extremely curious and they can smell scents from a mile away. I was excited to get a Chef's Star Compost Pail because now I can start truly composting.

So this was my original compost bin. Now it was originally a pot for a plant, but the plant died. I am very new to composting so I started off light and used old shells from peanuts and almonds. Amazing cats like playing with peanut and almond shells and I would would find them scattered around the yard.

Now that I have a  Chef's Star Compost Pail, my compost might stand a chance. I really like the design of this pail because it is compact, sturdy, and stylish. The pail holds a gallon and it is the perfect size for beginners. There is a nice depth and width to the pail, The stainless steel design is multi-functional. The pail is weighted, but it is easy to carry. Since stainless steel does not rust, it can withstand the elements if you choose to keep it outside. Also, the stainless steel makes it attractive and allows you to proudly display it in your yard.

The design of the top is revolutionary to me because it has a built in replaceable filter. The filter is meant to cut back on the smell of the compost pile. I tested out the strength of the filters by wetting the dirt because wet dirt has a distinctive smell. I did not smell anything, but the real test will be when I start adding uneaten fruits and vegetables to the pail. I will definitely update this post when I do.

Since I have not added anything remotely smelly to the pail, I am keeping it under my kitchen table until further notice. My house cats have not tried to bother it, so maybe the filters are high powered. Overall I am liking the quality of Chef's Star Compost Pail. Hopefully I can make a great compost pile because my front yard definitely needs some awesome nutrition.

Do you have a compost bin?

When I was younger, my dad always had a compost pile for our garden. This is a very convenient product to start composting. I don't have a garden, but I could compost my flower beds!

I've never had compost, but you've inspired me to make some! I love gardening!

Interesting. I love the idea of composting as long as it doesn't bring in wildlife, even though I particularly enjoy seeing them. This looks like a great idea!

We have a red wiggler composting worm bed. My husband just built it last month. But this looks like a convenient composting solution.

I have been wanting to compost also and we have wildlife in our area so it has stopped me. I will be checking this out because my flower beds could use some good compost.

Our new house had a compost bin outside already full. I used the soil, but know I don't know what to do next! Thanks for the tips!

I am used to seeing compost done in our backyard back when we still have a rest house in the province. This compost pail is such a great idea.

We used to have a compost bin and I loved it. We got a little lazy with it and need to restart it now, but I'm hoping to soon!

I really need to compost like this and need a bin too! We eat a lot of fruits and veggie and feel bad to trash the scapes in the garbage. This bin looks amazing!

we had a very similar one (in white). It was a gem for storing things in the kitchen before we took it to the back yard.

I do not have a compost bin and have never thought about getting one. Don't think I ever will either really. :)
